So What Exactly is Calendula?
Calendula officinalis is a plant that has been used for centuries for ornamental, culinary, cosmetic, and medicinal purposes. Calendula (Calendula officinalis) is an herbaceous plant of the small genus Calendula, in the Asteraceae family. One of its common names is the "pot marigold". That is how our name, 'Lady Marigold©' came into full bloom! Calendula is a common plant in home gardens throughout the world today and easily blooms and thrives wherever it’s planted, and it’s just as easily cultivated to be made into oil, tea and more. The orange-yellow petals of the flowers are used for medicine both externally and internally.
Let's get started on why the Calendula officinalis plant is oh so good for your body....
Behold the Anti-Inflammatory Properties
The many benefits of Calendula officinalis oil is due to the significant levels of triterpenoids, flavonoids, carotenoids, saponins, polysaccharides and other active antioxidants. We solar infuse our Calendula oil in high quality olive oil and vitamin E oil for an added boost of goodness for the skin. The oil turns into a rich and beautiful amber color and can be applied directly to the skin or diluted with your other favorite body care products! The Lady Marigold team makes gallons of pure Calendula oil and it is than added to other products such as our Moisturizing Salve formula, 10th Power Pain Relieving Salve, Seasonal Products, and more! Many of our clients have found great relief while using both the Calendula oil and Moisturizing Salve to treat more serious skin conditions such as; eczema, psoriasis, burns, rashes, and even bed sores!
The Amazing Wound Healer
Calendula increases the blood flow and helps deliver oxygen to wounds and infected areas, thus speeding up the recovery rate and wound healing. Many studies were done for slow-healing wounds, such as exposed types of ulcers, in which they found that animals treated within an eight-day window using the treatment had a 90 percent closure of their wounds, as compared to only 51 percent of those who had not used the plant-based topical treatment. Due to Calendula's ability to accelerate tissue repair, it is also very effective as a topical remedy for treating hemorrhoids.
Treats and Protects Against Cancer
Studies have found that Calendula officinalis not only fights carcinogenic activity within tumors, but it also activates the lymphocytes, which are found in the blood and lymph tissue, that fight against foreign invaders within the body. So not only does Calendula have anti-cancer properties, it is extremely beneficial at strengthening the immune system and lymphatic system!
Very Versatile and Gentle Enough for the Whole Family
Calendula is one plant that can actually be used both internally and externally, for all ages. Our family has experienced firsthand the healing properties of our Calendula-based products. The kids each have their own jar of salve to take to school and their own stash at home as well. Our daughter's hands break out if she is exposed to the harsh chemicals from certain soaps and our son is notorious for getting a rash on his cheeks from being outside for too long in the winter. Both Calendula oil and Moisturizing Salve have been the winning ticket for healing and repairing their skin the fastest!
